Takamine Guitars

Takamine Co., Ltd. is a Japanese guitar manufacturer based in Nakatsugawa, Gifu, Japan. Takamine is known for its steel-string acoustic guitars. The company was founded in May 1962; in 1978 they were one of the first companies to introduce acoustic-electric models, where they pioneered the design of the preamplifier-equalizer component. The company name is pronounced /tɑːkɑːˈmiːneɪ/ ("ta - ka - mee - nay") in Japanese; it is often pronounced /ˈtækəmaɪn/ ("ta - ka - mine") in English. The name comes from Mount Takamine located in Nakatsugawa. Takamine started as a small family business based in Japan, but since then it has become one of the leading manufacturers of acoustic guitar in the world. The History of Takamine guitars can be dated back as early as 1962 and the brand went global during the mid-1970s, when Takamine tapped into the growing popularity of guitar in Japan and around the world. They have been credited with making several technological advances in the development of acoustic guitars, earning worldwide recognition for the development of under-saddle Palathetic pickup for their acoustic-electric guitars.
