Tricks To Tunes Book 2 Viola

Book Two continues from Book One starting with the introduction of the notes on the G string. Next come sections on bowing starting with simple slurs, then cross string slurs, uneven bow distribution and stopped slurs. F and C natural and the scale of C major are introduced followed by the notes on the E string for violins and the C string for violas and cellos.

The book also covers dotted rhythms and 6/8 time. Some tunes in this section use rhythmic elements such as semi-quavers, not covered by the theory in the book. However, pupils should be able to understand these new rhythms with only brief instruction from the teacher.

By the end of Book Two students should have achieved a standard of performance equivalent to Grade One Trinity College and understand theory to that standard.
